Comments This is where Gen. Norman "Dutch" Coat heroically inspired his men to move inland from the beach where they were pinned down. Cota walked along the beach waving his pistol, ignoring the German fire. He yelled to the Rangers that had just landed, "Rangers, lead the way!" He reportedly said, "We are dying on the beach. Let us go inland and die." and then jumped up and lead the way up the bluffs and into Vierville.
